Parasites, Grubs, and Pests, Oh My!

Did you notice patchy areas of your lawn this summer or holes in the leaves of your shrubbery and flora? Pesky beetles that frequent our area of the country can cause major damage in all stages of their lives, above and below the surface of our landscape.

In the spring, after the forsythia has bloomed and before the lilacs burst, tiny grubs in the soil awaken and start feeding on grass roots. These grubs will eventually grow into many different types of bugs, which feed on many types of foliage in your landscape in the summer. These pests lay eggs in the soil which hatch in the fall, and then the vicious cycle starts all over again.

Luckily there is a completely natural way to keep these grubs in check. Beneficial nematodes, which are live microscopic organisms that occur naturally in soil, can be applied to problem areas of your landscape. These organisms are parasitic to insect pests like grubs, and will significantly cut back on their population as they feast on the grubs. No pesticides are needed!

It consists of a strain of nematodes called Heterorhabditis bacteriophora, which is used to control Rootworm, Beetles, Grubs, Aphids, Ticks, Weevils and more. Timing is imperative, there is a short window in both the spring and fall when the application takes place. Click here to sign up or feel free to give us a call at 781-729-0095 to learn more!
